My mother tongue is Afrikaans. This unique, broken and earthy African language is what I know. It's the language I've been brought up in – it is my home. This series – HART (Afrikaans for heart) – can be interpreted as the abstract anatomy of my heart. It aims to communicate my raw, not-so-well-defined and explosive love of the Afrikaans language. These works were heavily influenced by Fokofpolisiekar's Antibiotika and aim to explore the Afrikaans language as a linguistic landscape of the soul.
