Pursuit | Album Art
I had the privilege to work with the band Pursuit on their 2022 album, iKhaya. iKhaya means "home" in the Zulu language, and I was asked to develop an album cover and extensive visual language that could capture the essence of "home". The main theme identified by the band, that they wanted to communicate through the album, was a call for all "brothers and sisters from all walks of life" to come together in "vibrant unity". The album is a celebration of diversity, as well as unity, expressed in the richness of human community.
To localise this theme within a South African context, I aimed to portray three different communities, namely Xhosa, Sotho and Afrikaans, coming together. Each community is represented by different shapes and colours, forming a unique visual language to express the essence of each community. The various visual languages were then woven together to form a vibrant and harmonious "tapestry of sound". As a collective, we wanted to make sure the overall aesthetic of the album feels warm, inviting, vibrant and melodic! It was a joy and honour to work on this project with a group of gifted musicians who are able to voice the often subtle and hidden reverence for the divine in our hearts.
